Parnell History
Parnell, Iowa developed following the arrival of the Milwaukee Railroad, which helped establish the community as a local trade and transportation hub. The town was officially incorporated in 1891 and quickly grew with a variety of early businesses that supported both residents and surrounding farms. These included a hardware and grocery store, drug store, foundry and blacksmith shop, newspaper office, hotel, livery stable, tavern, dry goods store, millinery shop, photography studio, opera house, and a local bank, reflecting a thriving small town economy during its early years.
