Delmar History
Delmar, Iowa was established in 1869 as part of an effort to bring the railroad to the area, helping shape the town’s early growth and development. Railroad service began in 1871, carrying passengers for decades before transitioning primarily to freight service by the late 20th century.
Today, Norton Park sits where the original railroad tracks once ran through the center of town. The park provides a welcoming space for walking, community events, and outdoor recreation, reflecting Delmar’s continued connection to its history and small-town character.
