Keokuk History

Incorporated in 1848, Keokuk, Iowa became the state’s southernmost city. Named after Sauk Chief Keokuk, the community honors its rich heritage through the preservation of historic sites, landmarks, and monuments that reflect its important role in regional history.

Attractions and Entertainment

Known as the Geode Capital of the World, Keokuk, Iowa is home to an abundance of beautiful geodes that are prized by collectors around the globe. Each year, the community celebrates this unique distinction during the Geode Fest and Rock Show, a weekend filled with educational activities, exhibits, and family-friendly fun.
