Coal Valley History

The village of Coal Valley, Illinois was established in 1856 by local farmers and early settlers. Shortly after its founding, the community experienced rapid growth with the arrival of the Coal Valley Mining Company, which helped develop coal mining operations in the area. The mining industry attracted workers and businesses, allowing the small settlement to expand into a thriving mining town. Today, the village covers about 2.3 square miles and continues to reflect its early roots while evolving into a welcoming residential community near the Quad Cities.

Coal Valley, Illinois offers a variety of attractions and convenient amenities that make it a desirable place to live in the Quad Cities region. One of the community’s highlights is the Oakwood Country Club, which features one of the premier golf courses in the area.
